Africa Legal Innovation Week 2020 – Justice In The Digital Age

Lawyers Hub launched the Africa Legal Innovation Week 2020, a 4-day virtual conference held
from 1st to 4th December 2020, that aimed at bringing legal technologists and practitioners across
the African Continent to discuss the role of technology in supporting access to justice.

The Lawyers Hub is a Legal-Tech organization that exists to provide innovative and technology-
driven solutions to policy, legal practice and access to justice with a particular focus on
technology-driven enterprises and policy alternatives. They specialize on tech policy and access
to justice.

KO Associates LLP Senior Partner, Stephen Kiptinness shared valuable insights during the panel
discussions on the transition that telcos, in particular, have experienced over the last decade –
from fixed line to mobile to internet, etc., and how technology has influenced that evolution. This
discussion brought out the fact that the technology sector has expanded to most if not all sectors
in the economy and as a result it has impacted lives and livelihoods.

The conference sought to connect legal technologists across the continent, map out the status of
technology adoption in the legal ecosystem in Africa, assess the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on the justice sector and celebrate legal innovators improving access to justice in
Africa.

The conference further explored legal innovations, the impact of COVID-19 on the legal sector
and also celebrated legal innovators who have tirelessly worked to improve access to justice in
Africa under the general theme: The Cross-Cutting Effects of Technology.
